Fetal Echocardiography (Baby's Heart Scan)

A dedicated, detailed ultrasound of the unborn baby's heart.

Sex determination of the foetus is not done at this centre. It is a punishable offence under the PC-PNDT Act, 1994.

About this test

Fetal echocardiography examines the baby's heart chambers, valves, the major blood vessels and the heart rhythm in detail, usually between 18 and 24 weeks. It is advised when the risk of a heart problem is higher than usual.

When is it advised?

  • A possible heart finding on the anomaly scan
  • Diabetes before pregnancy, or certain medicines in pregnancy
  • A previous child or parent with a heart defect
  • High NT measurement or an abnormal screening result

How to prepare

  • No fasting needed.

On the day

  • A female staff member (chaperone) is always present during the scan.
  • Bring a photo ID (required by law for every pregnancy scan), your doctor's prescription and your previous scan reports.
  • You will fill and sign the PC-PNDT Form F, as required for every pregnancy scan in India.
  • The report is prepared by the radiologist, handed to you and also shared on WhatsApp.

Frequently asked questions

Is fetal echo different from the anomaly scan?

The anomaly scan checks the heart as one of many organs. Fetal echo focuses only on the heart and examines it in much greater detail.
