About this test
Follicular monitoring tracks the growth of follicles in the ovaries and the thickness of the uterine lining over several days of a cycle, usually by transvaginal ultrasound. It helps time intercourse, intrauterine insemination (IUI) or medicines.
When is it advised?
- Trying to conceive, or infertility treatment
- Checking whether ovulation is happening
- Monitoring the response to ovulation medicines
How to prepare
- Start on the cycle day your gynaecologist advises (often around day 9–10).
- Empty your bladder before each transvaginal scan.
- Bring the previous days' scan records to every visit.
On the day
- A female staff member (chaperone) is always present during the scan.
- Each visit is a short scan; your size readings are recorded so the next visit can be compared.
- The report is handed to you and also shared on WhatsApp after each visit.
