Sex determination of the foetus is not done at this centre. It is a punishable offence under the PC-PNDT Act, 1994.
About this test
A growth scan measures the baby's head, abdomen and thigh bone to estimate weight and compare it with standard growth charts. It also checks the baby's position, the amount of amniotic fluid and the placenta.
When is it advised?
- Routine third-trimester check, usually around 28–36 weeks
- Concern that the baby is too small or too large
- Reduced baby movements
- High blood pressure, diabetes or twins in pregnancy
How to prepare
- No fasting needed. A partly full bladder helps in the second trimester.
On the day
- A female staff member (chaperone) is always present during the scan.
- Bring a photo ID (required by law for every pregnancy scan), your doctor's prescription and your previous scan reports.
- You will fill and sign the PC-PNDT Form F, as required for every pregnancy scan in India.
- The report is prepared by the radiologist, handed to you and also shared on WhatsApp.
Frequently asked questions
How accurate is the estimated weight?
Ultrasound weight estimates can differ from the birth weight by about 10–15%, so trends over several scans are more useful than one number.
